Are you one of the first five?

• Diplomas are exciting and innovative new qualifications for 14-19 year olds, providing a real alternative to more traditional education and qualifications.

• The first five Diploma lines will begin to be taught from September 2008: Creative and Media, Construction and the Built Environment, Engineering, Information Technology and Society, Health and Development.

• Diplomas will give young people a fully rounded qualification, which combines theoretical and practical learning, including Functional Skills and Personal Learning and Thinking

Functional Skills On The Horizon

• Functional skills qualifications in English, Math’s and ICT are being piloted now and will be available nationally from September 2010.

• Assessments for Functional Skills are very different to other qualifications; therefore it is important that you prepare learners adequately before entering them for their assessments.

• Assessment will be based primarily on task-based scenario questions, the assessments will use and reinforce skills-based, problem solving learning techniques.

• With functional skills in pilot stage BigStride is already planning for the transition, we endeavor to be one step ahead and ensure packs are ready for the launch!
