Big Stride Key & Basic Skills Training Support See For Yourself
Together

How do I use the packs and my samples?

The materials provide valuable additional resources to complement and extend your existing teaching and Key Skills sessions. Activities can be taken in isolation and fit into your lesson plans to achieve learners’ underpinning knowledge and portfolio evidence - or could even form a framework for your lesson plans!

So think about Key Skills sessions, linking to vocational qualifications or adapting the activities to support Functional Skills!

Health & Social care (adult)

People who have physical or psychological problems often need help coping with the day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted. We will walk through a host of important topics within this environment including business basics, care planning, organising events, health and safety considerations and industry issues.

Employers are also looking for much more, such as communication skills, decision-making skills, and how to manage yourself so we provide the tools for all of these too!

Learners create their own hypothetical scenarios which help them complete topical industry activities and are set in a context that will enthuse and excite them. They are also mapped and complement the mandatory NVQ units.

Here a few example activities and some of the occupational units they are linked to:

  • Flash cards (HSC35 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals)
  • My working week (HSC31 Promote effective communication for and about individuals )
  • Self-appraisal questionnaire (HSC23 Develop your knowledge and practice)
  • Investigate the ideal environment (HSC32 Promote, monitor and maintain health... )
  • Sector documents (HSC21 Communicate with, and complete records for individuals )
  • Improve your own performance  (HSC33 Reflect on and develop your practice)
